The do’s and dont’s of laser hair removal

Are you interested in laser hair removal or are you booked in for your first treatment? There are a few things that you need to do before you attend your first session:

1. Take the tan off
Fake tan can be your best friend at any time of the year, except at your laser appointment. Make sure to wash off your fake tan before your appointment! The most common complications that can occur when fake tan is present on the skin is prolonged erythema (redness) and pigmentation which sometimes leads to temporary discolouration of the skin – and we don’t want that!

2. SHAVE don’t WAX!
For laser to work, the root (or hair follicle) needs to be noticed by the laser to zap it right out. If you wax before your appointment, there won’t be a hair follicle visible to the laser machine, therefore, making the treatment ineffective.

If you have waxed, it’s best to postpone your laser treatment until the hair grows back. Then shave 24-48 hours before your appointment and you’ll be right to go! Doing this overtime prolongs the hair growth cycle, giving you beautiful smooth and fuzz free skin in the long run!

3. Stay out of the sun
Sun burnt or tanned skin can run the risk of getting a bit sizzled by our laser, resulting in some slight pigmentation in some areas which is never nice. Try to avoid direct sun exposure 2 weeks before your appointment and 2 weeks after your session. Therefore, we say Autumn/Winter is the optimal time laser hair removal, as you’re less likely going to be exposed to harsh sun and heat.

The key to having permanent fuzz free skin is to be consistent with your appointments. Hair growth is greatly affected by the consistency of your appointments so make sure to book in a series of treatments 4-6 weeks apart. Anything longer could hinder your results in the long run – so get on top of it!
